Eight fire engines have been handed over to the Ghana National Fire and Rescue Service (GNFRS) in Ho to enhance the response time of the service to emergencies in the Volta Region.
The fire engines are to be distributed to some of the districts, especially the newly created ones, and the regional command.
At a short handover ceremony, the Volta Regional Minister, Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, who presented the fire engines to the service, indicated that the presentation was good news for the region, in view of the rampant outbreak of domestic and bush fires.
She said an appeal by the regional command for residential and office accommodation was being addressed by district chief executives in the region.
Each district is supposed to have about 16 fire officers at post.
The Volta Regional Commander of the GNFRS, Mr Tony Gomez, promised that the service would live up to expectation.
He, however, called for more vehicles to enable fire officers to discharge their duties to expectation.
