Vlisco Group Tailor Academy trains fashion designers

The exclusive quality and expressive designs of fabrics of Vlisco Group have made them a beloved part of numerous traditions in many African countries.

The group aims at facilitating and empowering women through what it terms as the ‘3 Ls’; learning, labour and leadership, and  for this reason, the group has the Vlisco Tailor Academy Ghana, which is to support talented Ghanaian tailors, dressmakers and fashion designers to create a platform that connects African fashion talent and creativity with the knowledge of Vlisco Group in the African and global fashion world.

It also aims at catalysing the African fashion world and the empowerment of women, the drivers for the Vlisco Group Tailor Academies. This would be achieved through integrating education, funding, coaching and employment into a fashion facilitation ecosystem.

Graduation ceremony

The group, on Friday, held a graduation ceremony for 13 master candidates of the Vlisco Group Tailor Academy Ghana. The graduates started their training in August 2014 and received a certificate in Fashion Design. Vlisco will be seeking employment for seven graduates within its tailoring workshop in Tema and other partners.

Addressing the programme, the Managing Director of Vlisco Ghana, Mr Kofi Boateng, said, “At Vlisco, we have made it part of our company’s purpose to facilitate women empowerment through training programmes, promoting women entrepreneurship via the Vlisco Tailor Academy and Dream Fund across Africa.”
