With the signing of the contracts, the FBOs will now have ready markets for their produce.

In the Greater Accra Region, 24 FBOs signed the contract with the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association (GNTTTA) to supply a total of 1,445 crates of tomatoes within three months of the peak season from August to October.

In the Volta Region, 15 FBOs will supply 33,840 bags of garden eggs, as well as 12,120 crates of Okro and 700 bags of pepper to various vegetable seller associations at Kpeve and Dzemeni markets in the South Dayi District.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Associates For Sustainable Rural Development (ASRuD), Mr Cosmos Y. Abiwu, disclosed this to the Daily Graphic in an interview in Ho.

He said the contracts were part of efforts to build a supply chain relationship to reduce the losses to farmers when their produce got rotten and wasted on the farms due to the lack of ready markets.

The monitoring and Evaluation Officer of ASHRuD,  an NGO based in Ho, Mr Michael Segbefia, disclosed that the total number of farmers involved so far was 1099, made up of 477 males and 622 females.

He said the project was being sponsored by three international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the Netherlands Development Organisation-SNV in partnership with The Hunger Project and Agro-Eco, and is facilitated by ASHRuD.
