Two armed robbers grabbed

 After evading the police for more than a year, two suspected armed robbers who also sexually assaulted their victims have finally been grabbed by the police in Kumasi.

Kwabena Oppong alias Kubi, 23 and Kofi Owusu Ansah also known as Nanaba, 28, who have been on the police wanted  list for more than a year, were last Wednesday apprehended by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Police in connection with another stealing case.


 Sexual assault

In August last year, the two suspects together with Kelvin Adjei Frimpong, currently on remand in prison custody, attacked the house of the complainant at Gyinyase in Kumasi armed with locally manufactured pistols.

They robbed the victim of cash amount of GH¢1, 600, a wallet containing unspecified amount belonging to the husband of the victim and her wedding band.

The suspects further ordered the victim and her 14-year old daughter to strip naked after which they inserted their fingers into their private parts and tried to have sex with them.


Briefing the The Mirror, Chief Inspector Godwin Ahianyo, Deputy Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer, said following the arrest of the leader of the gang, the other two accomplices have since been placed on the police wanted list.

He said on Wednesday, October 14, the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (RCID) had information that the two had been arrested by the KNUST Police in relation to a stealing case.

According to him, the two were brought to the RCID where an identification parade was carried out and the two were duly identified by their victims.

The two were alleged to have admitted being part of the gang that robbed the victim’s household at Gyinyase last year.

He said the two would soon be processed for court on charges of armed robbery and sexual assault.
