Transport fares to go up by weekend

Transport fares are set to go up nationwide at the weekend by an average of 20 per cent. The decision announced by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), follows a meeting by stakeholders, according to the GRTCC.

A Joy News account at midday revealed some trotro stations have already started charging the new fares, much to the chagrin of commuters.

The General Secretary of the GRTCC, Alhaji Aliu Baba was emphatic the increases were to take effect from Saturday, September 14, after stakeholders Wednesday justified the increases by rising operating costs.
