The Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana has honoured three of its distinguished alumni for dedicated service to the hall as fellows and their contribution to the growth of the Old Vandals Association (OVA), an association of alumni of the hall.
They are Alhaji Razak El-Alawa, a journalist and media consultant, who is the immediate past National President of OVA; Prof. Prosper M. Nude of the Earth Science
Department and member of the Commonwealth Hall Governing Council, and Mr Felix Addo, the immediate past Country Senior Partner of PWC Ghana.
The awards were presented to the awardees at a recent annual end-of-year dinner/dance at the Senior Common Room (SRC) of the hall.
Alhaji El-Alawa
The citation accompanying the award to Alhaji El-Alawa read that the Old Vandals “owe you a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices you have made over the years, first as Greater Accra President (1999–2010) and as National President (2011–2015), that have made the alumni of the Commonwealth Hall the best known in Ghana”.
“There is also no doubt that your interpersonal relationship with all Old Vandals, both young and old, has developed an esprit de corps among Old Vandals and brought all of us together,” it added.
Prof. Nude
On Prof. Nude, the citation said: “You epitomise prudence, perseverance, dedication, civility, modesty ….. which are qualities you have brought to bear since your student days to date ……… You are priceless to the hall, and the Senior Common Room in particular. You are a fountain of advice to all and sundry as tutor, member of the hall’s management committee, member of the Hall Governing Council and, above all, Senior Common Room Committee member.”
Mr Addo
Concerning Mr Addo, the citation recognised his “exceptional dedication to the Commonwealth Hall and a high sense of benevolence, especially your sponsorship of the ‘Best Accounting Student’ for Commonwealth Hall”.
“You have also been an active member of the Old Vandals Association, being a member of the Council of Elders and also once served as the Chairman of the V–Cap Project,” it added.
At the ceremony, the joint guests of honour, Nana Ato Dadzie, a former Chief of Staff, and Nana Agyei Ampofo, the Chairman of the Lands Commission, jointly donated GH¢10,000 towards the rehabilitation of the Commonwealth Hall library.
