Three people have been granted bail of GH¢50,000 each after being charged in connection with the disruption of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Constituency Executive Election at Bidieso in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, Haruna Iddrisu, also known as Dole, Osei Boateng, also known as Nana Osei, and Charles Opoku, also known as Blackman, are accused of storming the polling station with offensive weapons and disrupting the election process.
According to a statement, the Ghana Police Service shared in a Facebook post on Tuesday said the incident occurred on July 12, 2026, when the suspects allegedly scattered ballot boxes and threatened election officials and voters.
The police said a reinforcement team responded to the scene and arrested the three suspects. One axe and one cutlass were retrieved during the operation.
The suspects later appeared before the Bekwai Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court granted each of them bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two justified sureties.
The case has been adjourned to August 10, 2026, to allow police investigations to continue.
The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects believed to have taken part in the incident.
