Three children killed in fire incident at Appolonia

Police in the Ashaiman Division of the Ghana Police Service have commenced investigation into a suspected case of arson after three children were burnt to death at Appolonia in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

It is not yet clear how last Saturday, July 4, 2020 night's blaze started. The deceased children, two girls and a boy aged five, eight and seven respectively got burnt beyond recognition when the fire swept through their home.

Fortunately, three other persons, mother of the children, her 10-year-old son and their step-father managed to survive the deadly incident.

The timely intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service saved the situation from claiming more lives and causing further damage to property.

Unusual noise

When Graphic Online visited the neighbourhood on Monday, July 6, 2020, an eyewitness told this reporter that he heard an unusual noise in the area that dawn at about 3:00am and neighbours came out of their homes only to see the house on fire.

"Quickly, we rushed to the scene and heard people screaming for help. We managed to save some but found out later that three got burnt and died," the eyewitness told Graphic Online. 

The eyewitness said the timely arrival of the fire service helped put out the fire and they also managed to retrieve the charred bodies of the deceased.

He said police personnel from the Ashaiman Division later conveyed the three bodies to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while those who sustained injuries were sent to the Tema General Hospital for care.
