‘The underprivileged in society needs attention’

The Queenmother of Agric Nwamase in the Ashanti Region, Nana Yaa Pokuah, has made a passionate appeal to traditional rulers in the country to turn their attention to the underprivileged in society and to include them in their plans.

She said it was unfortunate that people often tended to forget about the less fortunate ones in the society, and only remembered them at the last minute.

She said there should be a deliberate attempt to include them in all plans so as to ensure that all their needs were catered for.

Nana Pokuah made the appeal when the Kumasi Archdiocesan Association of Traditional Rulers presented food items and other consumables to the inmates of the Sisters of Charity Mission Orphanage in Kumasi.

Items

The items donated included bags of rice, sugar, detergents, diapers, cooking oil, biscuits and bar soaps.

The association also made a cash donation to the sisters for the running of the home.

The Nwamasehemaa said the association, which had been in existence for some time now, decided to contribute its widow’s mite to the home to assist the managers to cater for the inmates.

Appreciation

Rev. Fr John Anane, who received the items on behalf of the sisters, said she was grateful to the traditional rulers for turning their attention to the orphanage and coming to their aid.

He said the home had been taking care of the needs of orphans and disabled persons who had been abandoned by their families, and the donations from associations such as the traditional rulers would go a long way to help the sisters meet the needs of the inmates.
