The Mirror, Graphic Courier give fathers treat

It was an interesting moment for some ‘fathers’ yesterday as The Mirror, Ghana’s most popular and biggest-selling weekend newspaper, in partnership with its sister company, Graphic Courier and Delivery Service (GCDS), celebrated fathers to commemorate this year’s Father’s Day.

The fathers were surprised with gift items, including meals paid for by their children and loved ones, which were delivered to them in the comfort of their homes in different parts of Accra and Tema.

Packages

The three-course lunch packages and items containing sewn shirts, mugs, towels, and some souvenirs were presented in appreciation of fathers who had been identified by their own children to have made special contributions to the lives of the children.

Dubbed: “A Treat For Daddy”, the event gave readers and members of the public the opportunity to celebrate both their biological fathers and male guardians who remained ‘fathers’ in spite of the restrictions imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was led by the Events Manager of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), the parent company of The Mirror, Mr Kwabena Berko, and the Assistant Editor of The Mirror, Mrs Hadiza Nuhhu-Billa Quansah.

Deliveries

At exactly 9 a.m., five smartly dressed dispatch riders of the Graphic Courier had their motorbikes lined up at the entrance of the Alisa Hotel, ready to pick and dispatch the packages to their various locations, while others went with vehicles to deliver the items.

The team defied the rains and visited different places in Accra and Tema to deliver the special gifts to the fathers to make it a memorable one for them.
The “Treat For Daddy” was supported by Alisa Hotels, Ashfoam and X Men Ghana.

Recipients of the packages expressed their excitement and shock when they saw The Mirror team with the packages.

Others were even eager to know where the surprise packages came from when the team arrived in their homes.

Some of the places visited are Adenta, Dansoman, Ogbojo, Amasaman, Tema, and East Legon.

Father’s role

A retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Mr S. K. Asiamah, applauded The Mirror for the initiative, noting that fathers needed to be celebrated due to the critical role they played in society.

Justice Asiamah also called on fathers to do more for a better society.

"As fathers, we must allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in all that we do. We have a key role which is ordained by God," he said.

He also used the opportunity to pray for fathers for wisdom and guidance in all that they do.

Success

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the distribution, Mr Berko said the event was successful.

He said as a newspaper, The Mirror was always pleased to put smiles on the faces of families, adding "we are glad we did it at this crucial moment."

Mr Berko also indicated that next year's promotion would be exceptional as it would include a lot of exciting events.
