The suspect, Benjamen Tutu, was apprehended on July 5, 2013 at his hideout in Accra.

Tutu, after killing his friend, Stephen Adjagli, was said to have called one of his friends to assist him leave Accra. The friend informed the police who went to the hideout of Tutu at Adenta Japan Motors and arrested him.

Briefing the Press in Accra yesterday, the Adenta District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Stephen Ahiatafu, said Tutu and Adjagli had been friends for years.

He said Adjagli was the owner of the taxi while Tutu only used the car during the evenings. Tutu was supposed to make sales after using the car.

On July 4, this year, Adjagli went to the house of Tutu with his girlfriend to collect the sales made during the night.

Mr Ahiatafu said, Tutu told Adjagli he had made only GH¢50 but had used GH¢20 to offset a loan he took and that he could only pay GH¢30.

Adjagli took the money but later told Tutu to pay additional GH¢10 for fuel used. The situation resulted in a heated argument between the two friends.

Angry and no longer able to contain the situation, Mr Ahiatafu said, Tutu went into his room and took a dagger and stabbed Adjagli in the neck.

Adjagli fell down and bled to death at the spot.

Having realised the harm he had caused, Mr Ahiatafu said, Tutu bolted and went into hiding. He later called a friend and asked him to assist him to flee Accra but the friend informed the police who traced Tutu to his hideout and arrested him.

Adjagli is currently in the custody of the police, awaiting completion of investigations and possible prosecution.
