Tamale muslims briefed on 'Second Ghana Land Administration' Project
As part of a programme to educate the public on Ghana’s Land Reforms Policy, the National Project Coordinating Unit of the Second Ghana Land Administration Project (LAP-2) has interacted with muslim clerics and followers at the Tamale Central Mosque.

The Religious Outreach provided a platform for an extensive interaction between officers of the project and the muslim community on the development objectives of LAP-2, and the role expected of the public from all sectors and individuals members of the society including those of the Islamic Faith in order that there would be sanity in the administration and management of land in the country.
The Communications and Public Outreach Specialist for LAP-2, Mr Kweku Sersah-Johnson, called on the muslim community to partner the government to ensure an effective and efficient land management system.
He said the first phase of the Land Administration Project (LAP-1), which was undertaken from 2003 to 2010 under the ambit of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, had made many gains including the establishment of 37 Customary Land Secretariats, strengthening the existing ones and carrying out institutional reforms in all the Land Sector Agencies (LSA) to provide clients with best services.
He said the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and LAP were poised to ensure that the gains made under LAP-1 were further deepened and consolidated for sustainable growth and poverty reduction.
In his presentation, the Northern Regional Lands Officer, Mr. Yaw Aboagye Kyei informed the participants that LAP-2 with support from the World Bank and the Canadian International Development Agency also aims at making the Land Sector institutions more responsive to clients, cutting down the cost and time of doing business and providing an enabling environment to reflect the objective of an efficient and transparent service delivery.
He encouraged them to consider land title registration as prudent and get their lands registered any time they bought or acqired land to avoid multiple sale and conflicts for peace and progress of the nation.
The Chief Imam of the Tamale Central Mosque, Sheikh Abdul Salam Ahmed, thanked LAP on behalf of all muslims for having the entire muslim community at heart to be part of the process of reforming the land sector for the betterment of Ghana.
He gave the assurance that the muslim community will send the message far and wide in order to get all involved in the process to curtail the myriad of problems in respect of land.
He added that the activities of land guards and illegal miners have caused insecurity in some parts of the country and it was therefore a step in the right direction to have the Government through LAP and other Land Sector Agencies to fight these menace for accelerated growth of the country.
An opportunity was given to the congregants to ask questions bothering their minds and answers were provided to help clarify some of the concerns raised.
