Games that were played at the event, which was held at Lebanon House, Tudu, included basketball, Ludu, and draughts as well as dancing and eating competition.

June 23rd is celebrated each in Ghana as the National Disability Day.

The Foundation seeks to promote talents in persons with disabilities.

Talent Hour for Persons with Disability was established with the aim of creating awareness for a better world that is inclusive, equitable and sustainable for everyone, where the rights of people with disabilities are fully realized.

More importantly, the foundation also seeks to unleash talents and potentials of people with disability by way of helping secure jobs as well as educating the public against stigmatization of persons with disability.

The Founder of the Foundation, Mr Obeng Ansah, in an interview said the Foundation since 2010 had been celebrating the National Disability Day.

According to him, the celebration of the National Disability Day helps to create awareness to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development.

Similarly, he said the marking of the National Disability Day helps to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

“We have been the brain behind of most disability sports footage shown on our various television stations,” Mr Obeng Ansah stated.

He added “Talent Hour for persons with disabilities organises programmes every National Disability Day to support persons with disabilities.”

He said this year’s celebration brought the Greater Accra Regional wheelchair basketball team to entertain the patrons who were at the venue grounds.

The National Wheelchair Basketball Coach, Mr Elvis Alupui, commended the Foundation for the organisation of the event and called on government and other benevolent organisations to support the work of the Foundation.

He said if the Foundation was supported by the government, it would help to extend the celebration of the day in other regions of the country.

Mr Alupui also called for support for the Greater Accra Regional Wheelchair Basketball team, adding that the team had a tournament in Benin and would need the support of the government in order to be able to participate in such a tournament.

He also expressed worry that in spite of the importance of the National Disability Day, it was only the Talent Hour for Persons with Disability that seemed to be creating awareness about the event.

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3.
