He said the wealthy are supposed to help the poor in society because they had the resources which they could use to serve society and make life easy for others.

“God commands us as Christians to respond to global poverty and hunger with compassion,” Rev. Sackey told the inmates of the Remar Christian Rehabilitation Centre, Ghana at Dansoman when the Church of Pentecost donated food items, clothes and assorted items to them.

The centre cares for orphans, prostitutes, former -alcoholics, drug addicts, ex-convicts as well as street children.

Rev. Sackey said “having true compassion for the needy, as modelled by Jesus Christ in Matthew 9:35-36, means we are aware of their needs, we care about them and are ready to restore their hope and renew their faith in God.”

Donation and Health Screening

The items, including 15 bags of used clothes, two bags of shoes, a fridge and assorted food items valued at GH¢4000 and an amount of GH¢1,000, were received by Mr Valatin Koffi Yao, Director of the Remar Christian Rehabilitation Centre, Ghana.

The donation of the items was spiced with health screening for the inmates of the home by medical personnel who were members of the Kokomlemle PIWC.

The gesture forms part of activities to mark the end of a week-long celebration of this year’s Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) Week.

Charismatic and Pentecostal Churches together

GPCC was founded in 1969 as an umbrella body that would unite the pentecostal and charismatic churches. Every year, the first week of October is set aside to commemorate the formation of the council.

During the week the member-church fellowships exchange pulpits and demonstrate the love of God to humanity through the provision of social services.

Remar Ghana

The Director of Remar Ghana, Mr Valantin Yao,  said Remar Ghana, which is part of an international body, has been in Ghana since 1994 and has 13 homes in four regions. It aims at making society a better place for the marginalised and destitute.

Mr Yao also said currently the home cared for 500 inmates who came to the centre after evangelism in dens for drug addicts and prostitutes or they were brought to the centre by relatives.
