The Technical Officer of the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre for the Physically Handicapped in Kumasi, Mr Peter Oduro, has appealed to philanthropists and religious organisations to continue to support the institution in taking care of the inmates.

He said the centre, which has 70 inmates, operated with support from philanthropists with minimum assistance from the government.

Mr Oduro made the appeal when the South Suntreso Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA) presented items worth GH¢5,000.00 and cash donation of GH¢400.00 to support the upkeep of the inmates.

The items included bags of rice, yam, cooking oil, boxes of soaps, toiletries, detergents, pairs of shoes and used clothing.

Making the presentation on behalf of the church, an elder of the church, Mr Collins Owusu Bempah, said there was the need for members of the congregation to interact with the inmates and demonstrate the attention they attached to the well-being of children, particularly the disadvantaged and physically disabled.

He encouraged the inmates to obey the advice and directions from their authorities, emphasising that Jesus Christ still loved them and His good plans for them had not changed.

The elder in charge of people with disability at the church, Mr Philip Donkor, called on the government and all public-spirited Ghanaians to offer massive support to the home to keep the institution running.

He explained that since the Rehabilitation Centre was under the Department of Social Welfare, it was necessary for it to receive regular government intervention.
