Stop vilification of dedicated leaders — Very Rev. Amenu

The immediate past Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), Very Reverend Francis Amenu, has called on Ghanaians to stop the unwarranted trend of vilifying some dedicated and industrious leaders who risk their lives in the line of their duties.

“Our country could lose the services of potential resourceful and competent citizens who might decline to serve in leadership positions for fear of humiliation,” he lamented.

Very Rev.  Amenu was speaking at the farewell service in honour of Rev. Joyce Kofi Kodade who has ended his duty tour as the EPCG Synod Moderator of the West Volta Presbytery. The occasion, which also marked the 70th birthday of Rev. Kodade, was used to honour him for his dedicated services to the growth of the church and the nation.

Very Rev. Amenu expressed regret that committed leaders who served in public service or high-ranking positions in civil society to ensure the country attained its desired development goals were rather ‘rewarded’ with condemnation and humiliation at the least show of a flaw, which might not even be their fault.

He urged Ghanaians to do away with these deviant and malicious evil acts of undermining and rather cherish the natural and human resources of the country that have the propensity of promoting growth.

He also called on Christians who serve in leadership positions to demonstrate a high sense of maturity as worthy disciples in the propagation of the Gospel of salvation.

In his remarks, Rev. Kodade expressed gratitude to God and the people who made his 38 years service in the ministry of Christ successful.

Rev. Kodade was ordained  as a pastor in 1977. He was the first organiser of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana Religious Education and also worked at the Ministry of Education’s Curriculum Research and Development Division (CRDD). Rev Kodade worked as chaplain and headmaster in some educational institutions and as a full-time district pastor in some congregations until he was appointed a synod moderator in 2009.
