Speaking on Accra-based Radio Gold, Ghana’s Ambassador to Egypt, Alhaji Said Sinare, said the embassy has met with the leadership of the Ghanaian community in Cairo and has advised them to stay out of trouble.

“When you go to work just go back home and stay indoors as best as you can… the streets are not safe and anything can happen,” he advised.

Alhaji Sinare noted that, as an Ambassador it has been a difficult task for him.

“I actually go through a lot of trouble in terms of going to work and whether you are going to come back to see your family, or friends or staff,” he said.

Asked whether an evacuation plan was being considered as was done for Ghanaians living in Libya during the uprising there, Alhaji Sinare noted that a “plan B” was in place should the worst happen.

“The worst is yet to happen in Cairo. We will only implement the plan B when the worst happens.”

Alhaji Sinare further prayed that the crisis would end for Egypt to come back on its feet.

He, however, noted that it would take another ten years for Egypt to repair the damages that the uprising had caused.

On July 3, President Mohammed Morsi was ousted by the army after one year in office following four days of mass anti-government protests and his rejection of an army ultimatum to resolve the country’s worst political crisis since Hosni Mubarak was deposed in 2011.

The aftermath of President Morsi’s overthrow has been a series protests leading to deadly clashes between the military and the muslim brotherhood.
