Stanbic bank donates GH¢100,000 to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is indebted to food suppliers to the facility to the tune of GH¢1.8 million and this has affected the supply of food to the facility and waned the confidence of food suppliers, the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital, Dr Felix Anyah, disclosed in Accra yesterday.

He said this when a four-member team from Stanbic Bank presented a cheque for GH¢100,000 to the management of the hospital to offset part of the debt it owed the food suppliers.

The Communications Manager of Stanbic Bank, Mr Kojo Akoi Labi, led the team to present the cheque to Dr Anyah who was flanked by other management staff of the hospital.

Strategy

Dr Anyah explained that the move by Stanbic Bank was in line with a comprehensive strategy the management of the hospital had put in place to draw corporate support to service the debts they owed.

“We have just had a new management team in place for the KBTH and as part of innovative strategies to address the outstanding debt burden of the facility, we are reaching out to individuals, private and public institutions to see the way forward,” he said.

NHIS

Dr Anyah further said 78 per cent of the total clients of the hospital were on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

“What we are trying to do now is to look at different market segments so as to be able to package our products to attract people from other parts of the world who will be able to pay more.

“We want to do this by deploying the right technologies, acquiring more modern equipment and building the human resource base to render quality and reliable services not only for Ghana and Africa countries but the world at large,” he said.

Dr Anyah said the preoccupation of the current management was to put innovative mechanisms in place that would make the hospital a hub for health tourism in the Africa.

Support

For his part, Mr Labi said the donation made by Stanbic Bank to the KBTH formed part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility, especially in the area of improving healthcare delivery in the country.

“Stanbic Bank has had a cordial relationship with the KBTH for some years now, which is why we have decided to be part of the journey to transform the infrastructure and services at the hospital,” he said.

He gave an assurance that the bank would continue to support the hospital in various ways to ensure that health delivery was improved.
