SNAPS old students provide free health screening for Asylum Down residents

The 1991 Year Group of Snaps College of Accountancy & Secretaryship, has organised a health screening exercise for its members and people living within the Asylum Down environs in Accra.

According to the president of the group, Mr. Emmanuel Quarshie, even though the school which was initially located at Asylum Down no longer exists, members deemed it fit to abide by the adage that a sound mind resides in a sound body.

He said this is more so because as one ages, health matters take a heavy toll if not proper care is not taken.

“I believe we should cultivate the habit of regularly knowing our state of health in order to enjoy our hard-earned wealth, rather than using our wealth for our health. As a result of the work I do as an Investment Banker, I can recount how people, especially those in the middle class, tend to focus primarily on their work and meeting targets to the detriment of their health. This can have dire consequences”, he asserted.

The exercise was in partnership with G2 Medical Laboratory Services, a reputable and premier laboratory with specialisation in preventive medicine, corporate health fitness and clinical laboratory analysis.

Mrs Mercy Odzawo, who led the medical team admonished everybody to take keen and personal interest in preventive health which she said is a cheaper option than treatment.

The screening covered a wide range of tests such as blood pressure, liver function, blood sugar, breast screening, cholesterol, kidney, prostrate and stool. There were counselling sessions as well as referrals for treatment where necessary.
