Akuso Asibi, who was charged before the Adjabeng Court 1 in Accra, was also fined GH¢60 or in default, one week in prison.

Asibi, who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing the snails belonging to Madam Grace Twumasi at the Agbogbloshie Market in Accra, was brought before the court, presided over by Madam Arit Nsemoh.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, the Prosecutor, Sgt Loise Konadu, said Madam Twumasi, a trader, sells snails at the Agbogbloshie market, while Asibi, is a porter in the same market.

According to Sgt Konadu, there had been recent complaints of theft among the traders in the market, but all attempts to trace the mastermind had proved futile.

However, on November 14, 2015 at 3:00 a.m., Asibi was caught red-handed with the snails valued at GH¢ 650 concealed in a sack while he was preparing to bolt.

The prosecutor said further investigations showed Asibi had earlier stolen eight snails which he sold for GH¢20.00.
