‘Show love and fellow-feeling’

Vice-President Amissah-Arthur interacts with Mr Paul Boateng at the Flagstaff House in Accra.A member of the UK House of Lords, Lord Paul Yaw Boateng, has called on African leaders to practise the principle of love and fellow-feeling in governance and politics.

“We need a revival in governance; not only in the political field but also all spheres of our undertaking,” he said.

Lord Boateng, who is the Moderator of the African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) 2014, made the call when he led a delegation of the executive of ABLI to call on the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, at the Flagstaff House in Accra yesterday.

The delegation was at the Flagstaff House to inform the Vice-President of its intention to host an international forum in Ghana in May, next year.

The ABLI was established in early 2009 as a partnership between a coalition of Bible societies and Christian ministers working together with the Africa Area Office of the United Bible Societies.

It is also a United Bible Societies-supported project that focuses on promoting the use of the Bible as a tool for leadership transformation in Africa.

This mission is accomplished through the support of the African Union Prayer Breakfast, the development and distribution of Biblical resources and primarily the hosting of the annual ABLI forum.

Nations are founded on truth and love

Lord Boateng was of the strong conviction that his organisation would help transform nations that were founded on truth, love and justice.

“We believe that this integrity will lead to transformed nations that are founded on truth and characterised by love and justice. Leadership must be the love of God.”

Sharing his thoughts on the economies of Africa, Lord Boateng acknowledged the global economic crisis, from which Ghana could not be isolated, and urged the leadership on the continent to come together to confront the challenges facing their economies.

“What is happening around the world is impacting on our economy as well; so there is the need for us leaders to tackle it head-on,” he said.

The Vice-President, for his part, commended the initiative for the impact it had been making in the lives of people across the world.

He pledged the government’s support towards the successful hosting of the event in May next year.
