Report early for Private BECE — WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has cautioned candidates writing the Private BECE to report early to the examination centres or miss the opportunity to write their papers.

The Head of Public Affairs of WAEC, Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, made this known after two candidates were prevented from writing the section B of the first paper, English Language  at the WAEC Heights in Accra.

According to Mrs Teye-Cudjoe, the two candidates reported late, 10 minutes before the end of the first paper.

She said although other candidates were late, they were allowed to write the paper because they were only a few minutes late.

Mrs Teye-Cudjoe said candidates should not use where they lived as an excuse to be late since the invigilators would not accept that.

Charles Kyei, one of the candidates who was not allowed to write the paper, said he was disappointed that he was not allowed to write the paper even though he knew he was late.

“I live at Pokuase and I woke up at 4 a.m. but because of the traffic situation, I was not able to make it. I knew I would have done well this time but I have missed the opportunity. I will wait for the next paper,” he said sadly.

The private BECE  was introduced  in 2015 to give candidates who did not perform well in the school edition of the exam to improve on their performance, as well as provide an opportunity for first-timers  to do so.

This year, the 2,154 candidates who registered to write the exam are made up of 1,210 males and 944 females.

The examination, which started on Monday, February 10, 2020, will end on Friday, February 14, 2020.  It is being written at eleven centres throughout the country.
