Renew Kufuor's Mandate - Agyepong

The Chairman of the Atiwa Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwasi Osei Agyepong, has described the achievement of the NPP administration as “so far, so good”.

Accordingly, he has expressed the hope that the people would overwhelmingly renew the mandate of the Kufuor administration in next year’s polls.

He appealed to party faithful to support the reconstruction efforts of the NPP administration and described as unfortunate the tendency by some party supporters to demand gifts and, when they are denied, go round claiming that they have not benefited from the regime.

In an interview at Kwabeng, Mr Agyepong condemned this practice, which, he said, was very common in the previous regime, adding that “the only way out of the present difficulties is hard work and dedication to the cause of the party”.

He observed that although majority of the people were experiencing difficulties, the peace and freedom currently prevailing could not be quantified.

Mr Agyepong said developed countries achieved their present status largely because of peace and tranquillity which facilitated infrastructural development and income-generation.

He recalled Ghana’s immediate past where people were denied the right to express their views on national issues and urged all Ghanaians to hold on firmly to the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the country.

Mr Agyepong also asked NPP supporters to rededicate themselves to the goals of the government to rebuild the economy. On the National Health Insurance Scheme, he appealed to the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and other labour unions to reconsider their opposition to the deduction from their pension fund to support the scheme.

Mr Agyepong explained that health insurance schemes all over the world were not free, since it was mandatory for the members to contribute towards the financing of their health care needs.

He said most workers of today benefited from bursaries and scholarships provided for them from the toils of farmers and noted that the time had come for workers to also support farmers in their times of need.

Mr Agyepong said it was strange that workers were shouting on top of their voices to kick against deductions in support of the health insurance scheme, when, in the immediate past, moneys were siphoned from SSNIT coffers to support CIBA.

He said education and health were essential requirements for life sustenance and asked all Ghanaians to support the government to make these services affordable and accessible to the people
