Registration for Ghana Card moves up North

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has moved to the Northern, Savannah and North East regions to continue the registration of citizens for the Ghana Card.

The exercise which commenced last Friday, will end on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. It is taking place in 750 registration centres across the three regions.

There are 175 centres in the Savannah Region, 75 in North East Region and 400 centres in Northern Region.

Briefing

Briefing journalists in Tamale on Thursday ahead of the exercise, the Chief Executive of the NIA, Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah said adequate preparation had been put in place to ensure the smooth registration exercise in the three regions.

He said the exercise was opened to only Ghanaians aged 15 and above and resident in the aforementioned regions.

He indicated that a total of 2,902,035 eligible Ghanaians had been registered since the commencement of the exercise, 2,590,526 cards printed and a total of 1,718,021 people have been issued with the cards.

Illegal acts

Prof. Attafuah warned Ghanaians against vouching for foreigners to register for the Ghana Card, stating that any Ghanaian irrespective of their social stature who aid foreigners to acquire the citizen identity card violate the laws and would be prosecuted when found culpable.

He admonished all Ghanaians to be on alert and report any individual or group of persons suspected to be engaging in illegal act to the appropriate authority for the necessary action to be taken.
