Rebecca Foundation donates to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital
The Rebecca Foundation has donated a phototherapy machine valued at GH¢30,000 to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital to support newborn babies in need of light therapy to survive.
The donation, which took place at the Office of the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo last Wednesday was in fulfilment of a promise she made when she visited the hospital in October this year, to inaugurate an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Block, and a 16-bed mothers’ hostel.
According to the First Lady, she was touched by efforts being made by the hospital to save mothers and their babies from dying at birth when she visited the facility.
She expressed the hope that the machine would help in solving some of the health issues that some infants suffer at birth.
A Senior Clinical Technician at the Equipment Unit of the hospital, Mr Richard Agbeko Agbanyo, who received the machine on behalf of the hospital, thanked the First Lady for the gesture.
According to him, the equipment would help in reducing the number of deaths among children who needed heat to survive.
Spoilt machines
He said the hospital had four of the machines but two were currently out of order, which he added put a lot of pressure on the other two.
He, therefore, said the First Lady’s donation would help ease the pressure on the two working machines.
Mr Agbanyo mentioned that in a day, at least four newborn babies needed to be put on a phototherapy machine.
The situation, he explained, sometimes compelled the hospital to put two babies in a machine meant for one, a situation which he said was not conducive for the survival of the infants.
Philanthropist donates
In a related development, a philanthropist, Dr George Boahen Ansong, who is a dental practitioner with the Royal Dental Clinic, Toronto, Canada, has donated assorted dental products to the Rebecca Foundation in Accra.
The products included tooth paste, dental aids, dental bibs and other dental accessories.
The donation, which was done on behalf of Dr Ansong by his family led by Mr Dave Amankwa, was aimed at supporting the work of the First Lady.
According to Mr Amankwa, the donation was for onward presentation to especially, mothers and their children with the aim to promote good oral health.
Mrs Akufo-Addo thanked the philanthropist for the gesture saying it would help promote good oral health among beneficiary mothers and children.
