Former President Jerry Rawlings

Rawlings celebrates courageous Kenyan Muslims (Statement)

On the 21st of December 2015, a few days to Christmas, a group of Kenyan Al-Shabab militants ambushed a bus and demanded passengers to split into two groups; Christians and Muslims. The Muslims on the bus refused to split with their Christian colleagues. They asked the militants to either kill them together or leave the bus alone. This happened near the North-Eastern village of El Wak on the Somali border.

This show of solidarity in the face of the threat of death is the best Christmas and end of year gift ever the Muslims could give the Christians in Kenya. The development follows the killings of Christians by Al-Shabab militants.

This is what humanity is all about. Using our differences for the greater good and being each other’s keeper.

Kazi nzuri (Good job) to the Individuals on the bus. Indeed, you have proven there is still hope and love can break all negative barriers. Religion should never be used to justify violence but rather as a peace accord. As we end this year, the torch for hope, peace, harmony and mutual respect has been reignited.
