Rainstorm kills three in Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo
Three persons, including a child, lost their lives during a severe rainstorm that hit Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District and its surrounding communities in the Northern Region on Wednesday night.

The deceased persons are two elderly women aged 91 and 70 years and a 14-year-old boy.
Their names were given as Dinwaak Laari, Aloagnaad Poazia and Mumuni Hamza by officials of the District Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District Coordinator of NADMO, Mr Wuni Sugri, who briefed the Daily Graphic on the disaster, said the deceased persons were not killed by floods as reported earlier by an Accra-based radio station.

He said deceased persons died through the thunder and a collapsing building during the rainstorm.
Mr Sugri stated that Madam Poazia, 70, and her grandson, Hamza, were struck dead by thunder, while Madam Laari, the 91-year-old woman, was killed in her room when the building collapsed.
He said the rainstorm, which was accompanied by thunder and lightning also displaced 2,497 people and ripped the roofs off 250 houses and five classrooms. It also destroyed other property.
Affected communities
According to Mr Sugri, the worst affected communities are: Guangdeng, Kamdatiak, Tinpang, Mamdalik, Boaterigu and Tomoni.
He said currently, the victims of the rainstorm were putting up with their relatives and friends, adding that his outfit was compiling a report that he would submit, seeking assistance from the national headquarters of NADMO to ameliorate the plight of the victims.
Mr Sugri also said the affected people were yet to receive any assistance.
When contacted, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo, Mr Timothy Sampoa Larry, also confirmed the disaster.
He said he was working with the District NADMO Directorate to assist the affected people and expressed his sympathy to the bereaved families.
