The affected persons are staying with friends and relatives.

The storm, which lasted for about two hours, caused injuries to seven persons, including two pregnant women, one of whose protruding belly was hit by a flying branch of a tree, and a 10-year-old boy.

The victims, who were rushed to the nearest health centre at Ave-Dakpa, have been treated and discharged.

The Akatsi-North District Chief Executive, Mr James Gunu, told the Daily Graphic in an interview that the rainstorm was unprecedented in the annals of the community, adding that even trees which were expected to serve as windbreaks could not withstand the storm.

He said some damages were caused as well to school buildings, adding that the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) had been notified about the disaster and officials were already taking inventory of the extent of damage caused to the community.

Mr Gunu used the incident to appeal to the National Ambulance Service to allocate one ambulance to the newly created district, since his official car had to be used to convey the victims to the health facility.
