More than 80 houses were affected, while personal belongings of many residents were destroyed.

The most affected area was Asukwao, a suburb of Akosombo. However, no death was recorded.

According to the Akosombo Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Harrison Katso, the rain started at 1:00 p.m. and subsided at 5:20 p.m.

He said there had not been any casualty reported to his outfit as of 3:30 p.m. that he was talking to this reporter.

At the time of filing this report the situation had normalised and the people were going about their duties.

DSP Katso said the police and NADMO went to the affected communities in the morning and presented some relief items to the occupants of the affected homes.

The Asuogyaman District NADMO Coordinator, Mr Love Joy Dusi, confirmed the incident and said his men were on the field assessing the damage so as to forward the extent of damage to the regional office for assistance.

The Assembly Member for the Asukwao Electoral Area, Mr Frank Dugbaza, said last Tuesday’s flood was the worse that had ever hit the Akosombo town.

He said he had informed the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman town and that arrangements were underway to address problems that led to the flood in the area.

The Chief Executive officer of the VRA, Mr Kirk Koffi, and other officials visited the affected people to express their sympathies.

He said the VRA officials after going round saw some of the challenges and that management was going to work on the problem to avoid further flooding in the township.

“We have gone round and identified the problems, and management is quickly going to sit down and plan to avoid future occurrences,” Mr Koffi emphasised.

On behalf of VRA management, he presented 200 mini-bags of rice, 200 bottles of cooking oil and 700 pieces of tin fish to the Assembly Member for the Asukwao Electoral Area, Mr Frank Dugbaza, as support to the affected people.

Some of the affected people the Daily Graphic spoke to attributed the flood to narrow gutters in the community that the residents had complained about but which the VRA had done nothing about.

“We complained several times but nothing has been done about it. Look, I have lost almost everything in my room, Madam Faustina Sagoe, one of the affected people complained.

All efforts by the Daily Graphic to get the DCE for Asuogyaman, Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko, for his comments proved futile. However, the paper   gathered that he had earlier visited the affected communities and expressed his sympathy.
