Public urged to keep clean environment

The Regional Sales Manager of Fan Milk Limited (South West), Mr Daniel Addy, has appealed to the public to keep the country clean in order to promote good health. He said the task was a shared responsibility and not for the government and its metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies alone.
Mr Addy made the appeal when he presented a package of 70 litter bins, 50 Fan Milk branded footballs and products to 20 selected basic and senior high schools at Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern Region, after a three-hour general clean-up exercise.
The exercise, which was carried out on the theme, “Restoring the environment to its original state : Our responsibility,” was chaired by Mr David Afram, the Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service
He addressed participants after the clean-up exercise and commended the teachers, students and pupils who took part in the exercise — weeding, sweeping, picking plastic bags and clearing gutters of silt.
He said the failure to ensure a clean environment resulted in some members of the public falling prey to cholera, malaria, typhoid and flooding.
The Deputy Municipal Environmental Officer, Mr Robert Mensah Bedzrah, on behalf of the assembly, thanked Fan Milk and the Ghana National Scholarship Beneficiaries Association (GNASBA) for their partnership that had helped to intensify the country’s school health and agricultural programme.
He described the theme for the exercise as timely and appropriate, and said the assembly, had acquired a refuse disposal site, increased the number of refuse containers, bought two new cesspool emptiers and a refuse truck to help improve sanitation in the area.
