Price of tomatoes increase by 21 per cent

Prices of some foodstuff recorded an increase in the first week of November. The highest gain of 21 per cent was made by tomato to close the week at an average price of GH¢9.40 per “medium size tomato tin.”  It was sold at GH¢9 at the end of October 30, 2015.

This was followed by cassava (Gari) with a percentage gain in price to close the week at GH¢4.40 per olonka.

Cassava (fresh tubers) dropped 8 percentage points to close at an average price of GH¢3.60 per 3 or 4 tubers. Soyabean followed with a 4-per cent loss to close the week at GH¢ 6.90.

Maize and Rice (imported –unclesam) also followed with a percentage drop each.

Both closed the week at GH¢ 4.30 and 28.30 per olonka and 1 small bag (5kg) respectively.

The other commodity prices remained the same.

On the various markets, the price for an “olonka” of maize gained by 1 per cent each in Accra, Tamale and Techiman to close the week at GH¢ 4.10, GH¢4.10 and GH¢3.60 respectively and dropped by 5 per cent in Kumasi to close at GH¢ 5.20 and 2 per cent in Bawku to close at GH¢3.00 and 1 per cent in Dambai to close at GH¢5.00

A “medium size tomato tin” full of fresh tomatoes made gains in Accra, Kumasi, Techiman, Takoradi Dambai.

Greater Accra

In Accra, it gained 43 per cent to close at GH¢ 18.0 with Kumasi gaining 2 per cent to close at GH¢ 18.10. Techiman had 23 per cent to close at GH¢ 13.00.

Western Region

Takoradi and Dambai markets gained 20 and 64 per cent to close at GH¢21.60 and GH¢5.00 respectively.
