President pardons former Bawku Central MP

At the court’s sitting Tuesday, the former MP was not in court and so were his lawyers.

A Principal State Attorney, Mr Rexford Wiredu said he had learnt that lawyers for the appellant had withdrawn from the case and that the president had indicated his intention to grant him amnesty.

When the court found out from prison officers preent in court, it was clear that the former MP had  been granted amnesty and following that the court directed the republic to do the right thing.

The complainant in the case, cattle farmer Mr Sumaila Biebel, in March 2009 filed a suit at the High Court challenging the eligibility of the MP on the grounds that the MP held both British and Burkinabe passports and the High Court, in a default judgement on July 15, 2009, ordered the MP to vacate his seat.
