The police in the Central Region have arrested one Ali Sumanu, a Fulani alleged to be involved in a robbery case on the Cape Coast -Assin Foso road on June 2, which led to the death of one person.
According to the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Moses Ninson, at about 11:30 pm on the fateful day, about six men believed to be Fulani and armed with locally manufactured guns, blocked the road between Assin Kwata and Assin Adubiase with logs.
He said the robbers then robbed a number of drivers and passengers including Mama Kweku, a driver of a loaded cement truck with registration number, GW 9807-13 of his mobile phone and an unspecified amount of money.
He said the robbers also shot the mate of the articulated truck, Bukari Apuri, 26, in the abdomen.
The injured mate was rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Foso for treatment but was pronounced dead on an arrival.
DCOP Ninson said the police mounted a search for the robbers and on Tuesday, June 3, a day after the robbery, arrested Ali Sumanu at the Assin Praso Police Barrier while he was travelling on a vehicle.
He said when he was searched, the police found nine mobile phones and 371.60 Ghana Cedis on him.
He added that some of the robbery victims had identified the suspect and their mobile phones after he was arrested.
Ali Sumanu has been sent to the National Police Headquarters in Accra for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, the body of Bukari Apuri has since been deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital morgue.
