The three, Emmanuel Camale, 35; Komla Ago, 28; and Steven Andoh, 36, were picked up from their hideout in a bush at Kasoa.

They are said to be part of a group of 33 land guards who attacked and inflicted machete wounds on a family at Kasoa.

The police have subsequently mounted a manhunt for the arrest of the other 30 suspected land guards.

The land guards, alleged to be on the payroll of a businessman, popularly known as Kofa, used iron rod to whip one of their victims and also inflicted machete wounds on three others, including a military officer.

The victims were immediately rushed to the hospital by some eyewitnesses after they were found unconscious.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mrs Afia Tenge, said the attack on the victims occurred on October 13 and 15 this year.

She said after the arrest of Camale, Ago, and Ando, investigations by the police revealed that Kofa was the architect behind all the land guard activities at Kasoa.

“Kofa controls a number of land guards at Kasoa. He sells the land to people and provides land guards to protect them until their project was completed,” Mrs Tenge said.

First attack

Providing details on the first attack, Mrs Tenge said the three suspects were part of a group of land guards providing security for a man Kofa had sold a piece of land to.

During the laying of the foundation for the building, another man, believed to be the original owner of the land, confronted the person Kofa sold the land to.

Mrs Tenge said after the original owner provided a document that authenticated his claim, the project owner stopped work and informed Kofa about it.

Kofa then told the man to go back and continue with his project and provided him with three land guards to monitor the project for him.

The project owner refused to continue with the work and for some reason, the land guards suspected the residents of a nearby house to have given him information about the land.

They, therefore, launched an attack on the occupants of the house, during which they inflicted machete wounds on two men and used an iron rod to severely whip another, she said.

After the incident, they fled, leaving their victims unconscious.

Second attack

On October 15, Mrs Tenge said, a similar incident occurred at a different location involving the military man.

She said the military man was attacked by the land guards and after they had physically assaulted him, they dragged him before Kofa.

It was then that they realised the young man was a military officer.

Mrs Tenge said the men were currently on the run but a combined team of police officers had been deployed to find them.
