Police College to be established at Winneba
The government is to establish a police command and training college at Winneba in the Central Region to build the capacity of junior and senior police officers on strategic policing and executive leadership.

The trainees would also be taught modern methods of combating crime and maintaining peace and security.
President Mahama announced this yesterday at the 45th cadet officers graduation at the Police Depot, Tesano in Accra.
One hundred and ninety officer cadets, including two from Liberia and two from the Gambia, graduated.
Cadet Officer Richard L. Odartey emerged the best cadet officer, and received an award from President Mahama.
The President said the first batch of students for the proposed college was expected to report on November 4, 2013.
Commendation
Speaking generally about policing, President Mahama lauded the police for their paradigm shift from reactive to proactive policing.
That, he said, was manifested in their increased visibility in communities and on streets.
For instance, the President said, the police rose to the occasion during and after the 2012 election and in the aftermath of the Supreme Court judgement on the election petition.
He said the proactive policing was good in that it prevented the perpetuation of crime and saved the country from spending huge sums of money to conduct investigations into crimes.
On support to the police, President Mahama said the government had supported the Police Service with equipment, while officers continued to receive training.
Resourcing the police
For instance, he said, the government had provided the police with six modern speed boats, and indicated that the marine unit had been re-established.
Touching on the foreign cadet officers, President Mahama said their involvement in the training facilitated the exchange of ideas and increased collaboration in the fight against transnational crimes.
He asked the graduates to lead by example and embrace the principles of teamwork and delegation.
