Police arrest suspect in cop-killing robbery

One of the suspected highway armed robbers who killed police Constable Frank Eku Edu on the Atebubu-Kwame Danso road on June 7, 2016 has been arrested.

Mallam Samaha Zaaki, 34 was arrested at about 2.00 am Saturday at his residence at Kwame Danso.

He is suspected to be among five armed robbers who attacked traders on an Atebubu-bound bus.

The robbers shot and killed Constable Edu who was escorting the traders who were on their way to the Atebubu market and took away his AK 47 rifle.

Police closed in on Mallam Zaaki right in front of his wife, children and tenants.

Items retrieved from him included two single barreled guns, 20 different live cartridges and bundles of fake currencies in various denominations packed in a black suitcase.

A new machete known locally as baawua and mobile phones were also retrieved from the suspect.

Brong Ahafo Regional Police PRO, ASP Christopher Tawiah said the police have intensified their search for the other suspects. 

The AK 47 that was taken from Constable Edu was yet to be retrieved.
