Baabi Yaro, 32, Ahmed Dauda, 36, and someone whose name was given as Mustapha, 22 were picked up at their hide-out after their alleged contractor, Rebecca Adjeika Mensah, 52 (Auntie Kaa) had given them out.

That was after Rebecca Mensah had been arrested at her residence yesterday at 2 pm.

According to the Accra Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Frank Adufati, Rebecca Mensah has been granted bail, while the three suspects were in police custody.

He said the three suspects, after attacking Okaija and his counterpart, Obuamah Addey, fled and went into hiding.

For fear of being arrested, the suspects were said to have switched off their phones and cut all communications with friends and relatives, including Rebecca Mensah.

Mr Adufati said the police, through their intelligence, located the residence of Rebecca Mensah and went to apprehend her.

After being interrogated for hours, he said Rebecca Mensah’s lawyers came to the Accra Fast Track Court, where their client and the suspects had been sent to.

Mr Adufati said after several interrogations, the suspects confessed to the crime and also admitted to have cut off the hand of Okaija.

Okaija, the victim, had his left hand severed during a confrontation with a group of men he and another person had spotted on a parcel of land at Adjangotey, which they claimed belonged to their family.

Okaija and Obuamah Addey, his counterpart, had gone to the land site to drive away the men when they were rather accosted by some  men from the bush.

Okaija made an attempt to call for support with his phone, but a member of the group, Mustapha, who was standing behind him, slashed off his (Okaija’s) hand with a machete.
