Plan Ghana to improve sanitation at Upper Manya
Plan Ghana, an international child-centred community development organisation, has taken steps to improve on sanitation in the Upper Manya Krobo District to ensure that the people live in a clean environment.

To that end, it has put up a “sanitation market” at Asasehene in the district, where different types of KVIPs have been constructed to serve the people.
Plan Ghana has also trained artisans who will construct over 10 KVIPs in other areas in the district.
Mr Kofi Adade Debrah, Eastern Regional Programme Unit Manager of Plan Ghana, who handed over the sanitation market to the district assembly at a ceremony at Asasehene on Monday put the cost of the project, including the training of the artisans, at GHc 51,831.00.
He noted that sanitation was the most critical aspect of development since insanitary conditions bred diseases.
Mr Debrah noted that insanitary conditions facilitated the breeding of organic diseases.
He indicated that sanitary conditions needed to be given priority, and that Plan Ghana in partnership with the assembly had embarked on sensitisation programmes in the communities to create the necessary awareness on the need for a clean and sound environment.
Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Upper Manya, was grateful to Plan Ghana for showcasing the different types of toilets in the area.
Mr Angmor advised the people to adopt the KVIPs in their communities “to free their areas from open defecation”.
