The project, when completed, will include education facilities from nursery to the junior high school level as well as accommodation and vocational training centres aimed at equipping widows with requisite skills to cater for themselves.

During the sod-cutting for the commencement of the building complex, Madam Quist, who is also a former student of the Ghanatta Secondary School, said her gesture was an opportunity to give back to a community that had given him a means for her livelihood.

Named “The Village of God’s Children Orphanage”, the complex would provide children with the needed training that would instil in them love and hope.

The queen mother of Dodowa, Nene Yopeyo Dadetsu, said it was heartwarming that a former student of Ghanatta Secondary, who did not come from the town, had decided to put up such a structure.

The construction of the multi-million cedi project is being managed by a local non-governmental organisation, Rural Outreach and Aid Mission (ROAM).

The ground breaking ceremony for the Village of God’s Children Orphanage also coincided with the yearly outreach programme by the philanthropist to offer health screening, food and recreation to the underprivileged in the community.

Madam Quist, a nurse by profession, took the opportunity to advise the people on ways to ensure good health and asked them to exercise regularly.
