PHANJ Foundation donates to St Anna’s Home

The PHANJ Volunteers Foundation, an Agona Swedru based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has presented assorted food items and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the St Anna’s Family Home in Winneba in the Effutu Municipality in the Central region.

The items valued at a cost of GH₵5,000 included quantities of face masks, liquid soap, bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, Veronica buckets, carbonated and soft drinks, among others.

Coronavirus outbreak

Speaking to Graphic Online after a short presentation ceremony, the President of the foundation, Mr Philip Amponsah said that the outbreak of the pandemic had had a negative toll on the operations of orphanages in the country.

According to him, orphanages survived on the benevolence of corporate bodies and public spirited individuals and that in the wake of the pandemic, managers of orphanages were finding it very difficult to provide the basic needs of the children.

He noted that many organizations and individuals who occasionally supported the upkeep of children in orphanages were facing difficulties which were having dire consequences on the proper care of the children.

Respond to needs

He mentioned that due to the pandemic, most orphanage homes had been neglected and that the foundation thought it wise to extend a helping hand to respond to the immediate needs of the children in the orphanage home.

He indicated that the foundation as part of its vision would regularly support orphanages within its catchment areas so that children in such places would feel loved and not neglected by the society.

“The vision of the foundation is to put smiles on the faces of underprivileged children so that they would be part of the society” he said, adding that “orphans in the society must be shown love and care so that they would grow to become useful adults”.

He further called on religious organizations and corporate bodies to join hands to better the lives of disadvantaged children within communities.

For her part, Mrs Emelia Turkson, the Proprietress of the home, lauded the foundation for the timely support as it would go a long way to address some of their basic needs and added that the items would be put to good use for the ultimate benefit of the children.
