He said that was necessary so that the country would continue to enjoy peace at all times.

"Ghana is the only country we have and, therefore, let us resolve to be one another’s keeper at all times," he added.

Nana Kesse, who is the Chief of Oyoko in the New Juaben Municipality in the Eastern Region, made the call at a durbar of chiefs and people of Oyoko to commemorate the 36th anniversary of his enstoolment as Oyokohene and the Adontenhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area.

He used the occasion to appeal to the citizenry to refrain from baseless rumour-mongering, which has become part of the lifestyle of most people in the Oyoko community.

“Let us remain focused and rekindle our communal spirit so that together we can take the initiative to undertake more development projects and lobby the government for support as we have been doing previously,” he said

Review of customs and traditions
Nana Kesse recalled that in 2004, the Adonten Division had to review some customs and traditions of the area to reflect modern-day practices.

He said majority of the taboos had been abolished to allow people to go about their duties without let or hindrance.

Nana Kesse appealed to the government to direct the Department of Urban Roads to provide concrete drains at Oyoko in order to curtail the frequent flooding in the town which had rendered the local Catholic Junior High School block useless, since any time it rained, a portion of the town was submerged.

He paid tribute to all those who had contributed to the development of the area.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, called on chiefs to partner the government for the development of the country.

She congratulated Nana Kesse and urged him to continue to champion the cause of meeting the needs of Oyoko in particular, and the region as a whole.

The Managing Director of the Intercity STC and former Minister of Health, Mr Samuel Nuamah Donkor, praised Nana Kesse for his passion for the development of the people.
