Offinso North Police to get offices, accommodation

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North, Mr David Kwasi Asare, has disclosed that the Offinso North District Assembly has begun processes to construct new offices and accommodation units for the police at Yeboa Apatam, a suburb of Akomadan, the district capital.

Mr Asare said this when he paid a familiarisation visit to the District Police headquarters last Thursday and interacted with the personnel.

He said the district assembly was going to undertake the project in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Collins Ntim.

He was of the view that when the project was completed, it would facilitate the work of the police personnel serving in the district.

POLWA

The Offinso North District Police headquarters was originally the residence of the district police commander.

The district police commander is now resident at Techiman, a town nearby.

Mr Asare stated further that there were plans to support the Police Wives Association (POLWA) in the district with funds from the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre

(MASLOC), in addition to offering them training in income generating ventures such as batik tie-dye and soap making.

He called for effective coordination between the assembly and the police for the sustainable development of the area.

“It is essential that this is done because it will be difficult for any community to work well without help from the police in particular,” he added.

Check use of Tramadol

Mr Asare said the assembly would soon re-introduce neighbourhood committees to complement the efforts of the police in helping to reduce crime.

He urged the district police command to devise means of preventing the youth from abusing Tramadol, popularly called 'Tramol', a medicine used to treat moderate to severe pain and which should be taken on the advice of a medical doctor.

The DCE said the assembly was also in talks with the police administration to have revenue checkpoints opened at Tawiakrom as part of moves by the assembly to generate revenue.

The District Police Commander, Superintendent Mahmud Yussif, who described the visit by the DCE as unprecedented, commended him and urged him to make such visits regularly.

Supt Yussif assured the DCE of their readiness to protect residents from crime and other nefarious activities.

The Offinso North District Police Command has three subdivisions at Akomadan, Nkenkansu and Afrancho.
