Oda Police arrest cable thief

The Akyem Oda Police have arrested a member of a syndicate who allegedly steals electric cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The accused, Daniel Oppong alias Kobby, has been remanded in police custody by the Oda District Magistrate’s Court to reappear on March 24, 2016 for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to stealing.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Akyem Oda, the Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Ebenezer

Ampofo, said early last Friday, a resident of Oda Community 1 saw Oppong on top of an electric pole cutting the cables connecting to her house and the Christ Apostolic Church building.

He said the woman raised an alarm, which attracted people to the scene and they managed to arrest Oppong and sent him to the Oda Police Station.

According to Mr Ampofo, during interrogation, Oppong admitted the offence and pleaded for forgiveness.
