Oda Government Hospital gets support
Naatoa Telecommunications Systems, representatives of MTN, and Akyem Oda Citizens Association in Toronto, Canada, have donated hospital equipment worth GH¢26,000 to the Oda Government Hospital at a ceremony at Oda.

Naatoa Telecommunication System presented 50 bedsheets, one patient trolley, two wheel , 10 metal chairs and two telescopes all valued at GH¢10,000 while the Oda Citizens Association gave four wheelchairs, two dental chairs and one walker, all worth GH¢16,000.
Mr Abraham Ato Arhin, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Naatoa Telecommunication System, who presented the items on behalf of his company, said the equipment was aimed at enhancing health delivery at the hospital.
He said the donation of the items formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to the people in the company’s catchment area.
Mr Arhin said Naatoa had already renovated a six-classroom block for Saltpong Methodist Primary School at a cost of GH¢12,000 and also refurbished Bakutsir Methodist Junior High School and provided it with Information Communication Technology (ICT) at a cost of GH¢9,000 this year.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda, Mr William Agyapong Quaittoo, was grateful to the two organisations for the gesture, which would go a long way to improve health delivery at the hospital.
He seized the opportunity to appeal to other organisations and wealthy individuals to contribute meaningfully towards the development of the hospital, which lacks modern facilities.
Mr Quaittoo commended the management and staff of the hospital for their hard work despite the lack of modern working equipment.
Mr Stephen Ahenkorah Darko, former Chairman of Oda Citizens Association in Toronto, who presented the items on behalf of the association, recalled the donation of an ambulance to the same hospital some time ago and 50 footballs recently presented to the Birim Central Directorate of Eduction to be supplied to schools in the municipality.
He assured the health facility of more assistance in the course of time, and urged the management of the hospital not to hesitate to contact the association in its time of need.
Mr Darko, however, appealed to parents whose children were resident in Canada to join the association as only 30 out of the over 100 residents in that country had not joined the association.
The Medical Superintendent of the Oda Government Hospital, Dr Kobena Awotwe Wiredu, who received the items, thanked the two organisations for the gesture and promised to put them to good use to enhance health delivery.
He mentioned the hospital’s major problems as the lack of an incubator, insufficient wards and a leaking operating theatre, among others, and appealed to the government and non-governmental organisations to help find solutions to them.
