Observe personal hygiene, prescribed directives: Yilo Paramount queen mother advises citizens
The Paramount Queen Mother for Yilo Krobo Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, Nana Korlekuor Adjado III, has advised the people in the traditional area, especially women, not to panic but observe personal hygiene and the directives given by the health ministry.
She noted that even though the situation was very fearful, considering the death toll in other countries, citizens must not panic and create unnecessary anxiety which would rather worsen our situation.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in a telephone interview, Nana Adjado III who has been caught up in the restriction on movements in Accra explained that what was very necessary was the total compliance of the directives by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Ministry of Health (MoH) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) “so that we could avoid contracting the virus”.
‘’The COVID-19 pandemic has come and there is nothing we can do about it. Experts have come out with pieces of advice and health directives and what we should do as citizens not only of Yilo Krobo but the nation as a whole is to ensure that we totally obey the health directives so that we can save ourselves from dying.
“I want us to constantly wash our hands with soap and also clean our hands with sanitisers as we have been directed. When we constantly do this in addition to the social distancing as had been prescribed and stay at home, then we shall be saving ourselves to some extent from the pandemic,” she emphasised.
Women’s role
The paramount queen mother noted with concern that women had a natural role they played by handling their children and stressed the need to take good care of the children in this critical time by observing personal hygiene when dealing with their children.
“We need to keep our surroundings always clean and neat and observe all the other personal hygiene. Let us also handle our children, who can easily fall prey to anything,” she said.
Nana Adjado III also admonished market women, hairdressers and beauticians as well as dressmakers to ensure that they decongested their work places, adding “we are in a critical time and we should think of our lives more than the money we are looking for.”
She advised that where it was possible, hair dressers and dressmakers who had a lot of apprentices should run shift systems as it was being observed in some work places throughout the country.
Returnees
Nana Adjado III said those who because of the restricted movement had moved from Accra and other urban areas to their home towns and villages in the traditional area must be careful to avoid spreading the pandemic should anyone have it.
“I am personally not happy about the people who went to their home towns and villages in spite of the President’s directive. I am also from Somanya and I could have gone there but I need to obey the directive of the President, hence I am in Accra at the moment,” she added.
She thanked all individuals and organisations that were supporting with handwashing equipment and appealed to other well wishers and philanthropists to do more.
She also urged religious leaders as well as all Christians and Muslims to be on their knees for God’s intervention, adding that “this is more than we can bear if it continues.”
