The 1,750 students are crowded in the few classrooms available, which creates a lot of discomfort for the students.

The Headmistress of the Nungua SHS, Ms Cecilia Boateng, told journalists that the construction of a classroom complex, which started 10 years ago to ease congestion, was yet to be completed.

She, therefore, appealed to the government and corporate bodies to support the construction of classroom blocks in the school.

Ms Boateng said the boys’ dormitory was in a poor state and needed renovation.

Besides, she said, there were inadequate bungalows for the teachers, which compelled many of the teachers to commute from town to school daily.

In an interview, a form three student of the school, Ms Ophelia Arthur, said it was difficult studying in the crowded classrooms.

Meanwhile, a 13-member reconstituted Board of Governors of the school has been inaugurated.

The Greater Accra Regional SHS Coordinator, Ms Helena Mends-Kittoe, said the four-year mandate of the board was to ensure the smooth running of the school.

She urged the members of the board to work diligently to make the school one of the best in the country.
