No court date for Schwarzenegger vs husband case yet

With their pens ready to write and cameras ready to roll, journalists have for the past two days thronged the Accra Circuit Court in anticipation of the case involving the husband of actress cum comedienne Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, aka Afia Schwarzenegger.

But their expectation had not been met with the police yet to present the case docket to the court.

The husband, Lawrence Abrokwa, is alleged to have circulated a video on social media of his wife and another man he supposedly found in bed.

Abrokwa is alleged to have threatened to pour acid on his wife and the man after he allegedly caught them in bed.

Attempts by the Daily Graphic to ascertain whether or not the case will end up in court had proved futile with sources in the police failing to either confirm or deny it.

Arrest

Abrokwa was arrested by the Achimota District Police Command last Friday and provisionally charged with three counts of assault, threat of harm and publication of obscene material.

After initial interrogations in the presence of his lawyer, Mr Maurice Ampaw, Abrokwa was granted bail.

An Officer of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ms Sheila Kessie Abayie-Buckman, last Friday confirmed to the Daily Graphic that the police were ready to prosecute Abroakwa after Afia Schwarzenegger lodged a complaint against him on August 30, 2017.

DSP Abayie-Buckman explained that on that day, Abrokwa made a complaint at the Achimota Police Station that he found his wife in bed with another man.

Later on the same day, Valentina, she said, also lodged a complaint at the same police station that she had been assaulted and threatened by her husband.

She explained that initially, both complainants were treated as suspects, to allow the police to investigate their said claims.

“Initial investigations revealed that the earlier complaints from Mr Abrokwa were not a crime prescribed by law; however, our investigation revealed that the complaint made by Valentina warranted a case of assault and threat of harm.

Out of court settlement?
Meanwhile there are unconfirmed media reports that the legal team of Abrokwa were making attempts to settle the matter out of court.

They are, therefore, said to have petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department (AG) to take a second look at the matter and possibly consider an out–of–court settlement.
