Nima MTTU clears Kanda Highway

The Nima Division of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service Friday carried out an exercise to tow parked vehicles on the Kanda Highway to ensure free movement of pedestrians and to reduce vehicular traffic.

The exercise was led by the Commander of Nima Division of MTTU, ASP Michael Aseidu.

The officers hauled vehicles parked on the pedestrian walkway and stopped ongoing illegal activities on the road.

Though there were “no parking” signs on the road, most drivers ignored the signs and parked on the road and on the pedestrian walkway, making it difficult for pedestrians to pass.

According to ASP Aseidu, the exercise was intended to remove all vehicles parked on the roads to reduce vehicular traffic and to ensure that the pedestrian walkways were decongested.

“A lot of pedestrians who have been knocked down on this road because pedestrians are forced to walk on the road due to the parked cars on the walkway,” he stated.

He added that the owner of the vehicles would be processed for court.

He explained that the towing activities started about three weeks ago on the Nima Highway and added that there had been some achievement.

Though they were some resistance from the owners of the vehicles, ASP Aseidu said they had made a remarkable achievement in reducing the number of vehicles parked on the road and on the pedestrian walkways on the Nima Highway and hoped to do the same on the Kanda Highway.
