Eze Samuel Ekezie, who claims to be a traditional ruler of a section of the Nigerian community in Ghana, is alleged to have threatened to kill Eze Geoffrey for parading himself as the king of the Nigerians in Ghana.

Eye witness

An eye witness, Chief Agbawodikizu Aaron, a Nigerian businessman, told the police that the incident happened on March 23, 2014 when he organised a naming ceremony for his newly born baby girl at Patase Gardens, near Mallam Junction in Accra.

He said the ceremony attracted a number of Nigerians in Accra and beyond.

He added that when the ceremony was going on and it got to a point where dignitaries were to be introduced, Ekezie suddenly took over the microphone from the master of ceremony (MC).

Ekezie is said to have ordered Makwugwo to leave the ceremony grounds else he would kill him. The announcement by Ekezie is said to have put fear in the guests attending the ceremony.

According to eyewitnesses who were present at the ceremony, Ekezie rushed to his car and returned with a pump action gun and started firing indiscriminately.

Report to police

Sensing danger and realising that his life was in danger, Makwugwo is said to have taken to his heels to leave the venue.

Makwugwo immediately reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of Ekezie.

The Director General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) (Rev) David Ampah Bennin, confirmed the case to the Daily Graphic.

The police have since completed investigations into the matter and have charged Ekezie with two counts of discharging firearm without authority and threat of death.
