Making the presentation on behalf of the NHIA at Abura Bando, the Omankrado, Nana Osam IV, through whose efforts the items were presented, said the NHIA had promised to provide more of the ICT equipment to the school to enable the pupils to compete favourably with their counterparts in junior high schools that already enjoy those facilities.

Nana Osam, who is also the Chief Executive of Jonathan Abraham Electrical and Construction Company, said even though ICT formed part of the syllabi of the junior high school, students in the community lacked access to the facility and placed them at a disadvantaged position during the Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Skills and knowledge

Nana Osam expressed the hope that the students would take advantaged of the equipment to upgrade their skills and knowledge in ICT, and urged both teachers and pupils to take good care of the items to enhance their lifespan for the benefit of other students.

He said the NHIA had promised to make more donations of the equipment to the school to enable more pupils to have access to ICT and also advised the teachers and pupils to complement the efforts of the community to improve the declining standards of education in the community.

He said a Community Health Planning System (CHPS) compound, started last year by Obaahemaa Nana Agyeman Foundation, a UK-based non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, has reached the lintel level and would soon be completed to cater for the health needs of the people.

The Headmaster of the Bando Islamic Junior High School, Mr Emmanuel Annor-Adjei, who received the items on behalf of the school, thanked the management of the NHIA for the donation and expressed the hope that the NHIA and other corporate bodies and philanthropists, as well as individuals, would assist the school.
